(BUSINESS WIRE)-- Schlumberger Limited (“Schlumberger”) today announced the expiration of the previously announced cash tender offer by Schlumberger Investment SA, an indirect wholly-owned subsidiary of Schlumberger (“SISA”), for any and all of SISA’s outstanding 3.300% Senior Notes due 2021 (the “Notes”), on the terms and subject to the conditions set forth in the Offer to Purchase dated June 17, 2020 (the “Offer to Purchase”) and the related Notice of Guaranteed Delivery attached to the Offer to Purchase (the “Notice of Guaranteed Delivery”). (BUSINESS WIRE)-- IDEMIA today announced that its MorphoWaveTM contactless fingerprint technology outperformed all other devices in the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST)’s latest Accuracy and Interoperability Test on all criteria involved.

The primary reason for carrying out the “Interoperability Assessment 2019: Contactless-to-Contact Fingerprint Capture” study was to test how well touchless systems work with legacy databases. NIST tested six sold contactless fingerprint scanning technologies by comparing how they fared with conventional touch-based fingerprint devices. The results show that contactless devices that scanned multiple fingers consistently achieved better accuracy than single finger scanning and made less “false positive” errors that incorrectly matched a person’s print with someone else’s.

MorphoWaveTM is a stand-out IDEMIA-developed technology that scans and checks four fingerprints in under a second by just waiving your hand within the reader. Shown as Dev03 in the report, MorphoWaveTM consistently performs better than other contactless devices in terms of matching rate, image capture sample rate, areas of overlap between probe and exemplar fingerprints, finger ridges and minutiae similarity. Further testing was conducted with both contact and contactless probes matched to the MorphoWaveTM exemplar contactless fingerprints.

This testing confirms MorphoWaveTM, which already underpins the currently sold MorphoWaveTM Compact, works well with legacy touch fingerprint scanners and other contactless solutions alike. It also highlights that this technology enables extremely efficient contactless fingerprint capture and matching against existing contact-based fingerprint databases. This latter feature is very beneficial for some government programs, border checks and minimizing passenger lines whenever user fingerprints are already held in a database. So MorphoWaveTM gives passengers a smoother and more hygienic user experience.

Milrem Robotics Led Consortium Awarded 30,6 MEUR by the European Commission to Develop a European Standardized Unmanned Ground System

(BUSINESS WIRE)-- A consortium led by Milrem Robotics and composed of several major defence, communication and cybersecurity companies and high technology SMEs was awarded 30,6 MEUR from the European Commission’s European Defence Industrial Development Programme (EDIDP) to develop a European standardized unmanned ground system.

During the project, a modular and scalable architecture for hybrid manned-unmanned systems will be developed to standardize a European wide ecosystem for aerial and ground platforms, command, control and communication equipment, sensors, payloads, and algorithms. The prototype system will utilize an existing unmanned ground vehicle – Milrem Robotics’ THeMIS – and a specific list of payloads.

The outcome of the project will be demonstrated in operational environments and relevant climatic conditions as part of participating member states military exercises or at separate testing grounds.

The total cost of the project, titled iMUGS (integrated Modular Unmanned Ground System), is 32,6 million euros of which 30,6 million will be provided by the European Commission.

The project is led by Estonia and its technical requirements have also been agreed with Finland, Latvia, Germany, Belgium, France, and Spain who are planning on financing the remaining 2 MEUR of the projects budget.

During the project operational know-how will be gathered and concepts for the combined engagement of manned and unmanned assets developed, while considering the ethical aspects applicable to robotics, artificial intelligence, and autonomous systems. State-of-the-art virtual and constructive simulation environments will also be set up.

iMUGS will be a cooperation between 14 parties: Milrem Robotics (project coordinator), GT Cyber Technologies, Safran Electronics & Defense, NEXTER Systems, Krauss-Maffei Wegmann, Diehl Defence, Bittium Wireless, Insta DefSec, (Un)Manned, dotOcean, Latvijas Mobilais Telefons, GMV Aerospace and Defence, the Estonian Military Academy and Royal Military Academy of Belgium.

Background

The objectives of the EDIDP programme are to contribute to the strategic autonomy of the European Union and to strengthen the cooperation between Member States. The priorities include enabling high-end operations of military forces with special focus on intelligence and secured communications and cyber. Actions include development of next generation ground combat capabilities and solutions in Artificial Intelligence, Virtual Reality and Cyber technologies.

Following the COVID-19 pandemic, 43% of SMBs say they only have money to last six months1 and less than half of SMBs have any online business2.

In addition to the economic impact, COVID-19 is accelerating the use of digital commerce experiences, from people seeking new ways to pay that do not involve touching a terminal to a boom in eCommerce, as stay-home orders result in shopping online instead of in-store. How much people spend online is also increasing globally, with spend per active card-not-present cardholder up by over 25% in April, compared to January3.

    Encouraging digital payments: Major shifts in consumer behavior have occurred around the globe, including the overarching need for a touchless experience at the point-of-sale as 90% of shoppers are hesitant to shop in-store due to coronavirus.4 Deploying easy to adopt contactless payment technology – rapidly, and at scale – is critical to enabling faster, more secure commerce. Visa is working with a range of partners to increase the number of locations where consumers can tap their contactless card or mobile phone. Starting in July, Visa street teams will visit merchants to provide “back to business” kits with new point-of-sale materials, branding, educational resources and special offers. The program will kick off in the 50 largest U.S. cities and expand globally to 15 countries including Singapore, Italy, and South Africa.
    Incentivizing neighborhood support: Visa partnerships encourage consumers to shop local and remind them that where you shop matters. The Visa Back to Business Project – an online tool that helps consumers identify businesses that may be open in the wake of the pandemic or a natural disaster – is now live in Australia, New Zealand and the U.S., and further expanding globally. In Europe and across Central Europe, Middle East and Africa, Visa has launched new SMB initiatives that champion and enable entrepreneurs while encouraging consumers to support small businesses. Warner Music IPO “scored” despite corona crisis

Warner Music Recording Studio was set to list on stock markets last Wednesday and has represented the largest IPO of the year. Despite that, some companies are delaying their listings due to COVID-19 pandemic, the company has increased the volume of its offered shares from $70 million to $77 million.

Issue price was $25 per share, yet the company started its trading on the Nasdaq Stock Market with the price of $27 per share. The stock price has grown over $30 in the end of its first trading day, which represents almost 20.5% price growth.

Warner Music received a total of $1.9 billion during its IPO. Moreover, market capitalization of the company increased to $12.75 billion. The growth has exceeded analysts' forecasts, who expected the company’s value to roughly reach $6 billion.

The company has been listed on New York Stock Exchange until 2011, when it was purchased for roughly $3.3 billion by Access Industries, a company belonging to a billionaire Leonard Blavatnik. Access Industries has been a majority owner since. Based on information provided by Tradingview.com, back then the share value was roughly $8 per share.

The New York based company has, similarly to other recording companies, made a progress and its position has significantly improved especially due to development of subscription music streaming services such as Spotify, Deezer, Tidal, Google Play Music or Apple Music. Daily Consumption of Walnuts Has a Positive Role in Improving Metabolic Syndrome

Istanbul, Turkey-Tuesday 16 June 2020 [ AETOS Wire ]

A new study suggests that consuming walnuts may help restore metabolic syndrome to a normal level or improve metabolic syndrome risk factors.

According to a paper published in Nutrition Research and Practice, a journal of the Korean Nutrition Society, regular consumption of walnuts may bring positive changes to metabolic syndrome status by increasing HDL cholesterol and decreasing fasting glucose level. Especially, consuming walnuts daily could contribute to alleviating potential prevalence rate of diabetes by favorably changing HbA1c and circulating adiponectin levels.

This study was conducted in the form of controlled crossover trial after randomly dividing 119 of Korean male and female adults (aged 30 to 55 years) with metabolic syndrome into two groups. Subjects in the first group were instructed to consume 45g of walnuts (305.4kcal, 6.4g of carbohydrate, 28.9 g of fat, and 6.4 g of protein), and the second group received iso-caloric white bread (313.3kcal, 60.5g of carbohydrate, 3.4g of fat, and 10.2g of protein) per day for 16 weeks as snack.

According to the study, the improvement rate for the five diagnostic factors of metabolic syndrome, blood pressure, blood sugar, cholesterol levels, abdominal fat and triglycerides, is revealed to be 28.6% ~ 52.8%. Moreover, 51.2% of participants with metabolic syndrome at baseline reverted to a normal status after the 16 weeks of walnut consumption.

Regarding the result of the study, Dr. Hyun-Jin Park said, “Metabolic syndrome is a major health issue around the world, but as Korean food culture tends to consume rice cakes, bread and instant noodles as snacks with its staple food being rice, diagnosis rate of metabolic syndrome is higher than that of normal body types.” Also, “As this clinical trial has shown, walnut consumption has a positive effect on the improvement of the metabolic syndrome. Therefore, taking walnuts as snacks, instead of high-carbohydrate snacks, may be a good choice for the prevention and improvement of metabolic syndrome.” she added.

Cell Therapy Tools for Cartilage Repair From Osteoarthritic Knee Joint of Elderly

Pluripotent cells grown from discard-worthy tissue by Edogawa hospital; World’s first such report

(BUSINESS WIRE)-- A break through feat of growing pluripotency expressing cells from osteoarthritis (OA) affected cartilage tissue of knee joints of elderly has been reported by orthopedicians and cell culture experts led by Dr Shojiro Katoh, President, Edogawa Hospital. OA affects, knee joints of millions globally and those with severe disease, undergo Total Knee Arthroplasty (TKA), in which damaged cartilage is replaced with artificial knee prosthesis. Dr Katoh, during TKA surgery, took portions of the damaged tissue, which otherwise is discarded, isolated chondrocyte cells in tissue engineering lab, and could culture them as fully reorganized healthy cartilage tissue, expressing biomarkers relevant to pluripotency.

Cartilage of the knee joint acts as a cushion between bones of the thigh and leg and absorbs the body weight. When cartilage is damaged due to sports injury, trauma or wear and tear, it causes joint pain and disability. In early stage of the disease, Autologous Chondrocyte Implantation (ACI) or Matrix Assisted Chondrocyte Implantation (MACI) are practiced. Such cell therapies use patient’s own cartilage cells, harvested from healthy, non-weight bearing area, grown in lab, and transplanted to replace the damaged tissue, to restore functionality.

"This could probably be the world’s first report of Osteoarthritis tissue, yielding cells expressing pluripotency markers," said Dr. Katoh, citing their publication in Regenerative Therapy Journal (https://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/pii/S2352320420300274), also presented in the 19th Japanese society for regenerative medicine meeting. "Our technique may help utilize OA affected cartilage, discarded as biomedical waste, as a source of tools of cell therapies viz., cells, cell secreted growth factors, and exosomes to repair cartilage defects in regenerative medicine," he added.

Edogawa hospital, located in eastern Tokyo, has many senior citizens. "Contrary to the age-old belief that Wisdom is the strength of elders, this research finding has made me humble, to learn about nature’s hidden strength in their physical intricacies too, fueling our enthusiasm," said Dr Katoh adding a philosophical humility to his accomplishment. His Edogawa Evolutionary Lab of Science (EELS), having confirmed hyaline phenotype is now evaluating miRNA-140 and Hyaluronan expression of chondrocytes.

This technology has a potential to solve cartilage damage of approximately 12 million people annually worldwide, according to JBM Inc, and GN Corporation, co-applicants to a patent and research partners to EELS.

Domain Security Blind Spots Put Global Enterprises at Serious Risk According to New Research from CSC’s Digital Brand Services Division

New research shows information technology and media and entertainment sectors take the most sophisticated approach to domain security while materials and real estate industries are most susceptible to attacks

(BUSINESS WIRE) -- CSC, a world leader in business, legal, tax, and domain security, today released its 2020 Domain Security Report: Forbes Global 2000 Companies from their Digital Brand Services (DBS) division. The report highlights significant shortfalls in enterprise domain security practices, putting organizations’ internet-facing digital assets at risk to threats, including domain name and domain name system (DNS) hijacking, phishing, and other fraudulent activity.

According to the report, 83% of Global 2000 organizations have not adopted basic domain security measures such as registry lock, which puts them at risk for domain name hijacking. The report indicates a wide industry disparity in domain security maturity with information technology and media and entertainment industries more likely to embrace available security controls, while industries such as materials and real estate trail behind.

“These security shortfalls are the direct result of not executing proper domain security techniques. Domain security cannot be an afterthought, and there needs to be a conscious effort to make this an intentional and critical part of every company’s overall cyber security posture, especially as criminals evolve their attack methods,” says Mark Calandra, executive vice president for CSC DBS. “As companies move to more online business models, it’s essential to use defense-in-depth practices to proactively manage, secure, and defend the foundational internet-facing components of your digital brand presence.”

Four out of five Global 2000 companies are severely at risk and exposed to domain name and DNS hijacking due to a lack of registry locks. Unlocked domains are vulnerable to social engineering tactics, which can lead to unauthorized DNS changes and domain name hijacking.

53% of the Forbes Global 2000 use retail-grade domain registrars, putting them at greater risk for phishing, social engineering, and attacks while complicating compliance demands. The management of the overall domain name portfolio by a reputable corporate registrar versus a retail registrar will make the adoption of domain security standards much easier to implement and monitor.

Only 20% of Global 2000 companies use enterprise-grade DNS hosting. Lack of DNS hosting redundancy and using non-enterprise-level DNS providers poses potential security threats like resiliency to distributed denial of service (DDoS) attacks, as well as down time, and revenue loss.

97% of the Global 2000 don’t use DNS security extensions (DNSSEC), which means the majority of companies are prone to cache poisoning attacks. Lack of deployment of DNSSEC leads to vulnerabilities in the DNS, which could include an attacker hijacking any step of the DNS lookup process.

Domain-based message authentication, reporting, and conformance (DMARC) use is only at 39% for the Global 2000 companies. DMARC is an email validation system designed to protect a company’s email domain from being used for email spoofing, phishing scams, and other cyber crime.
