ExaGrid Announces New Software Version 6.0

Includes New Retention Time-Lock Feature for Ransomware Recovery

MARLBOROUGH, Mass.-Thursday 17 September 2020 [ AETOS Wire ]

(BUSINESS WIRE) -- ExaGrid®, the industry’s only Tiered Backup Storage solution, today announced the release of software Version 6.0, which begins shipping on September 18, 2020.

Key features include:

New Retention Time-Lock for Ransomware Recovery

Retention Time-Lock is a revolutionary approach to protecting backup retention data to enable fast and easy recovery from ransomware.

  • ExaGrid’s two-tier architecture includes a network-facing tier and a non-network-facing tier. ExaGrid alone controls the non-network-facing tier, creating a tiered air gap.

  • Backups are written to the network-facing-tier for fast backup performance. The most recent backups are kept in their full undeduplicated form for fast restores.

  • Data is adaptively deduplicated (for storage cost efficiency) into the non-network-facing tier for long-term retention data. Organizations can have as many days, weeks, months, or years of retention as they require. There is no limit to the number of version retention copies that can be saved.

  • In addition to the long-term retention, ExaGrid offers a policy-driven approach allowing for any delete requests issued to the network-facing tier to be delayed in the non-network-facing tier for a specified number of days, so that backup data will not be deleted when a hacker takes control of the backup application or backup storage.

  • If encrypted data is sent to the network-facing tier, or if any of its data is encrypted, ExaGrid’s repository is protected as all the deduplication objects are immutable because they are never modified.

ExaGrid assumes the hackers will take control of the backup application or the backup storage and will issue delete commands for all backups. ExaGrid has the only non-network-facing tiered backup storage solution (a tiered air gap) with delayed deletes and immutable deduplication objects. This unique approach ensures when a ransomware attack occurs, data can be easily recovered or VMs booted from the ExaGrid Tiered Backup Storage system. Not only can the primary storage be restored, but all retained backups remain intact.

“ExaGrid’s Version 6.0 provides our customers with a new strategy for ransomware recovery: ExaGrid’s Retention Time-Lock, which prevents hackers from deleting data stored in our system’s repository tier as all deletes are delayed by a policy setting. This unique approach allows customers to recover data in the event that the primary storage has become compromised by ransomware or malware,” said Bill Andrews, ExaGrid’s President and CEO. “Unlike other approaches, which require the purchase of an additional storage unit, our approach only requires that customers allocate 2% to 10% of additional repository storage in their existing system with an adjustable delay period, which is in line with our goal of offering the most cost-effective solutions to our customers.”

Security Enhancements (in addition to Ransomware Recovery), New UI Platform, and Other Highlights of Version 6.0

Version 6.0 includes the following security enhancements:

  • New security officer role governs any changes to the Retention Time-Lock policy

  • Optional Two-Factor authentication in web-based user interface using any OAUTH-TOTP app

  • Additional control over SSH access

  • Utilize Active Directory credentials from trusted domains to control share and user interface access

  • New operator role for day to day operations reduces the need for administrator access.

  • Security checklist for quick and easy implementation of best practices

  • Automatic user interface logout after a period of inactivity

Version 6.0 includes the following additional features:

  • User interface improvements provide intuitive details about how the ExaGrid system’s storage capacity is being utilized

  • Streamlined navigation experience

  • Deduplication and replication performance improvements across multiple backup applications

ExaGrid’s Unique Approach: Tiered Backup Storage

Disk-cache Landing Zone (Performance Tier)

  • ExaGrid writes directly to disk for the fastest backup performance

  • ExaGrid restores directly from disk for the fastest restores and VM boots

Long-term Retention Repository (Retention Tier)

  • ExaGrid tiers long-term retention to a deduplicated data repository to reduce storage and resulting storage costs

Backing up to low-cost disk is fast for backups and restores, however, with longer-term retention, the amount of disk required becomes extremely expensive.

To reduce the amount of disk for long-term retention, deduplication appliances reduce the amount of storage and cost, however the deduplication is performed inline on the way to the disk which slows down backups to about one-third the performance of disk. Also, the data is only stored in deduplicated format resulting in extremely slow restores and VM boots as the data has to be reassembled, or rehydrated, for each request. In addition, deduplication appliances are scale-up storage which only adds storage capacity as data grows, resulting in backup windows that continue to grow as data grows, expensive forklift upgrades, and forced product obsolescence.

ExaGrid Tiered Backup Storage writes directly to disk for the fastest backups, and restores directly from disk for the fastest restores and VM boots. ExaGrid then tiers the long-term retention data to a deduplicated data repository to reduce the amount of retention storage and resulting cost. In addition, ExaGrid provides a scale-out architecture where appliances are simply added as data grows. Each appliance includes processor, memory, and network ports, so as data grows, all resources required are available to maintain a fixed-length backup window. This scale-out storage approach eliminates expensive forklift upgrades, and allows for mixing appliances of different sizes and models in the same scale-out system which eliminates product obsolescence while protecting IT investments up front and over time.

ExaGrid offers the best of both worlds by offering low-cost disk for the fastest backup and restore performance tiered to a deduplicated data repository for the lowest cost retention storage. The scale-out storage architecture provides a fixed-length backup window and is low cost up front and over time.

About ExaGrid

ExaGrid provides Tiered Backup Storage with a unique disk-cache Landing Zone, long-term retention repository, and scale-out architecture. ExaGrid’s Landing Zone provides for the fastest backups, restores, and instant VM recoveries. The retention repository offers the lowest cost for long-term retention. ExaGrid’s scale-out architecture includes full appliances and ensures a fixed-length backup window as data grows, eliminating expensive forklift upgrades and product obsolescence. New Study: Hand Dryers Equally Hygienic to Paper Towels for Drying Hands

Findings support World Health Organization and Centers for Disease Control and Prevention hand washing recommendations

EAST LONGMEADOW, Mass.-Monday 14 September 2020 [ AETOS Wire ]

(BUSINESS WIRE) -- After an exhaustive two-year process, a University of Arizona Health Sciences research team have announced the publication of their work, Comparison of electric hand dryers and paper towels for hand hygiene: a critical review of the literature. The review culled the current breadth of data, including published studies, news reports and online content, seeking to uncover which hand drying method, hand dryers or paper towels, is more hygienic and safer relative to human health risks. The researchers found that, while studies in the public arena generally favor paper towels over hand dryers, the conclusions are largely misleading and unsubstantiated.

Through the scientific research, the use of hand dryers and paper towels to dry hands were found to be equal from a health and safety perspective; the findings echo recommendations from the World Health Organization that everyone “frequently clean [their] hands…” and “dry [them] thoroughly by using paper towels or a warm air dryer,” and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention that report that, “Both [clean towels or air hand dryers] are effective ways to dry hands.”

To conduct the study, the research team considered 293 papers and published studies for inclusion in their review, rejecting 270 for failing to meet review criteria or for reporting generalized recommendations without sufficient scientific evidence. The 23 peer-reviewed studies that met the inclusion criteria were categorized and prioritized based on their scientific rigor, a score determined by taking into account such factors as sample size, methodology, data quality and whether or not the study was set up to represent real-world scenarios.

The study that was found to have the highest rigor score was an independent study conducted by the Mayo Clinic, Effects of 4 Hand-Drying Methods for Removing Bacteria From Washed Hands: A Randomized Trial. It found that “…there is no difference in bacteria counts when drying with paper towels or hand dryers.” Only three studies received positive rigor scores for having realistic testing conditions, and none of the studies reported any negative effects of either hand drying method on human health.

Although numerous studies have been published evaluating the “best” method for hand drying, “best” has been defined in a variety of ways relative to bacterial removal efficacy, environmental contamination potentials, ecological or cost benefits, noise and more. Kelly Reynolds, MSPH, Ph.D., the corresponding author of the review explained that, “No study to date has examined the “best” drying method,” and that she and her team, “found no empirical data to support one hand drying method over another from a health and safety perspective.”

In light of the coronavirus pandemic, hand hygiene has been widely covered in the media. Reynolds shared that, “Media reports frequently used sensationalized headlines. While such headlines may increase traffic, they sometimes overgeneralize or exaggerate research results. Consumers may only read the headlines which can influence public opinion toward biased or erroneous conclusions.”

“At a time when proper hand washing and drying is of the utmost importance, exclusively recommending paper towels is limiting, and frankly, irresponsible,” said William Gagnon, vice president of marketing and sales at Excel Dryer. “Hand dryers provide an effective way to achieve completely dry hands, a critical part of proper hand hygiene, the top defense against the spread of germs, like coronavirus.”

The scoping review’s conclusion calls for future studies to examine the relationship between contamination that occurs due to hand-drying methods and human health outcomes. They offer that this can be accomplished by utilizing real-world scenarios while controlling certain variables.

“We hope these credible findings will be consulted as part of guidelines and reopening plans,” said William Gagnon, vice president of marketing and sales at Excel Dryer. “Sensationalized news accounts and click-bait headlines created an unsubstantiated concern around hand dryers and hygiene. We’re grateful to the researchers for uncovering the truth, and hope the findings will help to dispel myths and categorize hand dryers as the hygienic hand drying solution they are.”

MIAMI-Mardi 8 Septembre 2020 [ AETOS Wire ]

Results presented at the 33rd ECNP Congress from a 12-week, placebo-controlled Phase II trial demonstrated BI 425809 has met its primary endpoint1,2
Trial results, together with an ongoing combination Phase II study of BI 425809 and adjunctive computerized cognitive training, add to the body of evidence for Boehringer Ingelheim’s schizophrenia research program3
Cognitive impairment associated with schizophrenia (CIAS) has a significant negative impact on daily functioning and remains a focus for Boehringer Ingelheim’s research across several neuropsychiatric disorders
(BUSINESS WIRE)-- Boehringer Ingelheim today announced the results from a 12-week, placebo-controlled Phase II trial, that demonstrated BI 425809 has met its primary endpoint. The data showed improvement in cognition in stable adult patients with schizophrenia.1 Central to many everyday tasks, impairment of cognitive function still constitutes a major burden for patients, and no pharmacological treatments are currently approved for cognitive impairment associated with schizophrenia (CIAS). These results presented at the 33rd European College of Neuropsychopharmacology (ECNP) Congress will advance the understanding of how deficits in transmission of signals between nerve cells may contribute to diminishing cognition in people living with schizophrenia.2

The Gly-T1 inhibitor, BI 425809, forms a key component of Boehringer Ingelheim’s Central Nervous System (CNS) research program. The latest trial results, along with an ongoing combination Phase II study of BI 425809 and adjunctive computerized cognitive training, will help determine the direction for BI 425809 in further schizophrenia research.3,4

Prof. W. Wolfgang Fleischhacker, Medical University Innsbruck, Austria: “The outcome of this trial is an important step forward in our understanding of cognition in schizophrenia. Cognitive impairment causes significant challenges for people in their everyday functioning. Patients with schizophrenia struggle with remembering things like birthdays, learning new tasks, concentrating, or making decisions that affect their everyday life. Advancing our understanding of how we might improve these symptoms in schizophrenia is significant for the research community and the patients and families living with this condition.”

The Phase II results of BI 425809 in cognitive impairment associated with schizophrenia are being further evaluated to assess how they will support the continued research and development for the treatment of schizophrenia.

“The trial results for our investigational compound BI 425809 in schizophrenia are encouraging. This is a positive advancement in our mechanistic knowledge of how excitatory neurotransmissions affect aspects of mental illness, aligning with our systematic neurobiological approach to CNS research,” adds Dr Vikas Mohan Sharma, M.D., head of medicine CNS, Retinopathies & Emerging Areas, Boehringer Ingelheim. “We recognize this is important news for people affected by schizophrenia. We are making progress in developing treatments which will not only reveal important advances in our understanding of schizophrenia but also potentially other neuropsychiatric diseases.”

Cognition is a fundamental aspect of everyday life, including problem solving, memory and attention. When affected, people living with poor cognition can have a reduced mental ability to process information, remember straightforward things or perceive other people’s emotions and expressions. These functions are common to many forms of mental disorders such as schizophrenia, Alzheimer’s disease and depression. Finding solutions for cognitive impairment is a key area of Boehringer Ingelheim CNS research.

Schlumberger, IBM and Red Hat Announce Major Hybrid Cloud Collaboration for the Energy Industry

Historic agreement expands access to DELFI cognitive E&P environment to address customers’ deployment preferences

LONDON & ARMONK, N.Y. & RALEIGH, N.C-Thursday 10 September 2020 [ AETOS Wire ]

(BUSINESS WIRE)-- Schlumberger, IBM and Red Hat, announced today a major collaboration to accelerate digital transformation across the oil and gas industry. The joint initiative will provide global access to Schlumberger’s leading exploration and production (E&P) cloud-based environment and cognitive applications by leveraging IBM’s hybrid cloud technology, built on the Red Hat OpenShift container platform.

Collaborative development will initially focus on two key areas:

Private, hybrid or multi-cloud deployment of the DELFI* cognitive E&P environment enabled by Red Hat OpenShift to significantly expand access for customers.
Delivering the first hybrid cloud implementation of the OSDU™ data platform (the open data platform for the industry).

Through the agreement with IBM and Red Hat, Schlumberger has committed to the exclusive use of Red Hat OpenShift. Using the container platform will enable the deployment of applications in the DELFI environment across any infrastructure, from traditional data centers to multiple clouds, including private and public. This new way of hosting will offer the possibility to use multiple cloud providers and will address critical issues for customers, facilitating in-country deployments in compliance with local regulations and data residency requirements.

The DELFI environment incorporates cutting-edge data analytics and artificial intelligence, drawing upon multiple data sources, automating workflows, and facilitating seamless collaboration for domain teams. Many more oil and gas operators, suppliers and partners, from all regions of the world will be enabled to work from the industry’s leading digital environment—built on a standard, open platform—where they can ‘write once and run everywhere’ when creating new applications.

“By expanding market access to the DELFI environment we take a major step forward on the journey to establishing the open and flexible digital environment our industry needs,” comments Olivier Le Peuch, chief executive officer, Schlumberger. “Our collaboration with IBM and Red Hat complements our established digital partnerships to produce an industry-first solution to overcome our customers’ challenges. Together, we are enabling seamless access to a hybrid cloud platform in all countries across the globe for deployment in any basin, for any operator.”

“The logic, purpose, and differentiation of all businesses can now be rendered in code, which is why digital innovation has become the most powerful way to drive transformation and hybrid cloud is the lever that unleashes it,” said Arvind Krishna, chief executive officer, IBM. “Together with Schlumberger, we are empowering a much broader group of participants to play a role in driving that transformation and helping the energy industry solve some of the world’s toughest challenges to emerge stronger.”

"The energy industry is transforming as organizations look for efficient new ways to power their operations, adopt digital technologies to create a competitive advantage, and innovate and integrate workflows to make faster and better decisions,” said Paul Cormier, president and chief executive officer, Red Hat. “A hybrid cloud foundation built on open source offers the flexibility, acceleration and innovation this digital transformation requires. Schlumberger has long been an industry leader and is bold in its vision for digital transformation in the energy industry. We look forward to working closely with Schlumberger to make the DELFI environment available everywhere with Red Hat OpenShift."

Schlumberger supports many of the world’s most vital oil and gas operations and is on the forefront of digitalization across the energy sector. It has established the DELFI environment as the industry-leading cognitive E&P environment where today energy professionals access open APIs to work together, independent of role, workflow or physical location, and create solutions that significantly improve business operations.

The organizations intend to further their collaboration with the creation of a differentiated data management and operations solution for the OSDU™ data platform, enabling oil and gas operators to build, deploy and transition digital solutions with hybrid-cloud data infrastructures. This will foster wider collaboration and greater efficiency across many professionals in the E&P value chain.

Prior to this announcement, Schlumberger, IBM and Red Hat successfully piloted the new hybrid cloud deployment of the DELFI environment on Red Hat OpenShift, the leading Kubernetes platform, working with Red Hat and IBM Services, the world’s largest team of Red Hat certified consultants. The two organizations focused on demonstrating the flexibility and portability for compute, storage and data intensive exploration and field development applications.

IBM’s collaboration with Schlumberger is part of the company’s new commitment to invest in accelerating adoption of hybrid cloud and open architectures. IBM is targeting essential industries, such as energy, running the crucial processes of the world. These efforts are increasing in importance as organizations navigate the impacts of the pandemic and economic downturn, which is creating an acute need for speed to market, flexibility and nimbleness to encourage innovation.

Public Wants Greater Focus on Science-Based Decision-Making Says New International Survey from Philip Morris International

• Majority of adults surveyed believe science can solve critical global challenges.

• However, only half of respondents believe governments are doing a good job in leveraging science to inform decisions.

LAUSANNE, Switzerland-Monday 14 September 2020 [ AETOS Wire ]

(BUSINESS WIRE) -- Philip Morris International Inc. (PMI) (NYSE: PM) today released “In Support of the Primacy of Science,” a white paper exploring international attitudes regarding the role of science in society, business, and policymaking. The white paper—presenting findings from an independent survey, conducted by Povaddo for PMI, of over 19,000 adults across 19 countries and territories—indicates that citizens around the world want governments, public authorities, and private businesses to prioritize science and facts when tackling critical issues.

The global insights reveal that faith in science is high, with most people surveyed (77 percent) hopeful that advances in science will solve many of society’s biggest problems. Supporting this view, there is also strong interest in businesses prioritizing science, with 90 percent of respondents saying it is important to them that businesses invest continually in science to improve their products.

Despite these positive attitudes, nearly half of respondents (47 percent) believe that society does not place enough importance on science. Given the diverging opinions, the white paper challenges the need for regulators to place greater focus on science to inform policy decisions, with half (51 percent) of respondents believing that their “government does a good job ensuring science and evidence are included in the decision-making process.”

“Science can help make significant strides in our collective efforts to address the world’s most pressing problems” said Dr. Moira Gilchrist, vice president for Strategic & Scientific Communications at PMI. “Unfortunately, governments and broader society have yet to embrace science at its fullest potential, as this global survey shows. Ensuring facts and evidence are given greater prominence in policymaking—over ideology, politics, and unsubstantiated beliefs—will help match the public’s expectations for science to sit at the heart of decisions impacting them and their future.”

The survey also reveals that people’s access to accurate scientific information is far from assured today, with nearly half of the total sample indicating that they find it difficult to access reliable information about scientific developments and relevant studies.

“This finding is alarming and sends a clear signal across business, media, and government that accurately communicating scientific information should remain an important priority,” added Dr. Gilchrist. “When reliable scientific information is in short supply, misinformation, wild guesses, and hearsay can take more space and significantly hamper people’s ability to make informed decisions.”

PMI is undergoing a fundamental transformation into a science- and technology-led company with the aim of delivering a smoke-free future—a future without cigarettes. With the right regulatory encouragement and support from civil society, we believe this goal can be achieved in many countries in 10 to 15 years. Science is central to delivering on this commitment. Since 2008, PMI has invested billions of dollars in developing, testing, and manufacturing better alternatives to cigarettes for adults who would otherwise continue to smoke. These products are the result of nearly two decades of R&D work, underpinned by a rigorous scientific assessment program and led by a team that today includes more than 430 world-class scientists and other experts. We make our scientific findings and methods available for others to scrutinize, we invite independent research into our products, and we encourage a broad, science-based conversation with regulators, scientists, and the public health community about these better alternatives and the role they can play in tobacco control and harm reduction.

To read the “In Support of the Primacy of Science” paper, visit https://www.pmi.com/primacyofscience.

Survey Methodology

Povaddo conducted this online survey on behalf of PMI between June 25 and July 8, 2020. The survey was fielded among 19,100 general population adults ages 21 and older in 19 countries and territories: Argentina, Australia, Brazil, Germany, Hong Kong, Israel, Italy, Japan, Mexico, the Netherlands, Norway, the Philippines, Russia, South Africa, South Korea, Taiwan, the United Kingdom, the United States, and Vietnam. For the overall sample, there is a margin of error of +/- 0.72% at the 95% confidence interval.

Philip Morris International: Delivering a Smoke-Free Future

Philip Morris International (PMI) is leading a transformation in the tobacco industry to create a smoke-free future and ultimately replace cigarettes with smoke-free products to the benefit of adults who would otherwise continue to smoke, society, the company, and its shareholders. PMI is a leading international tobacco company engaged in the manufacture and sale of cigarettes, as well as smoke-free products and associated electronic devices and accessories, and other nicotine-containing products in markets outside the United States. PMI ships a version of its smoke-free devices and consumables authorized by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration to Altria Group, Inc. for sale in the United States under license. PMI is building a future on a new category of smoke-free products that, while not risk-free, are a much better choice than continuing to smoke. Through multidisciplinary capabilities in product development, state-of-the-art facilities, and scientific substantiation, PMI aims to ensure that its smoke-free products meet adult consumer preferences and rigorous regulatory requirements. Fluor Joint Venture Successfully Starts Up Boilers at New Al-Zour Refinery in Kuwait

IRVING, Texas-Friday 11 September 2020 [ AETOS Wire ]

(BUSINESS WIRE)-- Fluor Corporation (NYSE: FLR) announced today that its joint venture with Daewoo Engineering & Construction and Hyundai Heavy Industries, FDH JV, has successfully started up two boilers and they began generating steam in the new Al-Zour Refinery at the Kuwait Integrated Petrochemicals Industrial Company’s (KIPIC) Package 2 and 3 Project in Kuwait.

Fluor is leading a joint venture that is working to deliver two engineering, procurement, fabrication and construction packages for key process support units, utilities and infrastructure for the highly complex, mega-sized Al-Zour Refinery project in Kuwait. Upon completion, the grassroots complex is expected to be one of the largest refineries in the world and process 615,000 barrels of oil per day.

“This significant milestone marks the completion of several critical utility systems to start up and advance the refinery into commercial operations with our ongoing support,” said Mark Fields, president of Fluor’s global Energy & Chemicals business. “Timely delivery of the new Al-Zour Refinery is critical to the Kuwait economy. Our team worked closely with KIPIC to continue with about 15,000 workers on site to maintain progress throughout the COVID-19 pandemic. This accomplishment was made possible through the joint venture team’s well-conceived health and safety strategy that was implemented with rigorous discipline.”

“Working together with the Fluor-led joint venture to achieve this important milestone for the ZOR Program is a true success – not only for KIPIC, but for the State of Kuwait – and will help bring energy self-sufficiency and further prosperity for all of us,” said Khaled Al-Awadhi, deputy CEO of KIPIC.

Omnitracs Expands Its Platform Offering With Acquisition of SmartDrive

Combined company will offer the first enterprise-grade, fully integrated video-based safety, telematics, compliance and routing platform at scale

DALLAS & SAN DIEGO-Friday 11 September 2020 [ AETOS Wire ]

(BUSINESS WIRE)-- Omnitracs, LLC, a leader in SaaS-based fleet management and data analytics solutions and a pioneer in transportation technology, and SmartDrive, a leader in video-based safety and transportation intelligence, today announced that they have entered into a definitive agreement for Omnitracs to acquire SmartDrive. The combined company will bring together two transportation technology leaders to offer an industry-first converged, end-to-end platform that optimizes safety, driver productivity and workflow, as well as routing, dispatch and compliance.

Pervasive connectivity, advanced hardware, and the power of artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning (ML) are just a few of the technology advancements that promise to unlock value and improve efficiency across all aspects of the $60B transportation technology industry. Unlocking that value in the highly fragmented fleet business, however, requires sufficient data and correlation. The new combined company will, for the first time, unite driving context with operational insight across hundreds of billions of data points to transform the experience for the driver, back office, and customer service alike.

“By integrating SmartDrive’s unparalleled transportation intelligence platform, video safety hardware and risk analysis service offering with the Omnitracs One platform, we can deliver a converged solution built on AI and ML that redefines the future of commercial transportation today. Real-time risk mitigation, streamlined data flows from the cab and vehicle sensors to dispatch and the back office, and a superior driver experience will be brought together to improve safety, efficiency and operational excellence,” said Ray Greer, Chief Executive Officer, Omnitracs. “We have long admired SmartDrive’s customer-centric approach to technology innovation and world class support and service. We look forward to welcoming the talented SmartDrive team to the Omnitracs family.”

There is no one-size-fits all solution for today’s fleets: the needs of oil and gas operations are very different from those of general freight – and both differ from local delivery and dozens of other transportation operations. Both Omnitracs and SmartDrive have built their businesses around providing enterprise-grade, flexible and adaptive solutions that can anticipate and address the distinct operating requirements of each fleet they serve. Together, their depth of experience across decades of partnerships will enable the combined company to uniquely support complexity at scale.

“We couldn’t be more excited about joining forces with Omnitracs and look forward to realizing and advancing the promise of convergence to the benefit of our shared customers,” stated Steve Mitgang, Chief Executive Officer, SmartDrive. “In Omnitracs, we have a like-minded company, seeing the power of data for innovation and solving material fleet and transportation industry challenges.”

The COVID-19 pandemic has underscored the significant role of commercial drivers, as the trucking sector has been instrumental to ensuring the availability of critical medical supplies and equipment, as well as essential consumer goods. Given the long-standing shortage of qualified drivers and high turnover rates, creating and sustaining a favorable driver experience (DX) is imperative to fleets’ success. However, recent transportation technology advancements have resulted in a proliferation of devices and sensors, the need for multiple cellular connections, siloed data streams that create redundancies, and other inefficiencies that stem from disparate onboard and back-office systems, all of which complicated the DX.

SmartDrive’s proven video-based safety program integrated with Omnitracs’ best-in-class driver workflow and complemented by the companies’ unmatched years of collective transportation intelligence present an opportunity to streamline and enhance DX. The combined company will deliver the most complete and intelligent DX with the right in-cab and back-office decision making, alerting, and driver coaching – a virtual co-pilot that will lead to significant safety, fuel efficiency, operational and financial gains for fleets.

“We’ve had great partnerships with both Omnitracs and SmartDrive over the years. We are excited to see these two companies come together,” said Chad England, Chief Executive Officer, C.R. England, Inc. “We are confident that the integration of offerings will create efficiencies for C.R. England. We congratulate both Omnitracs and SmartDrive on their new relationship and look forward to the future.”

Subject to customary closing conditions, including customary regulatory approval, the deal is expected to close later in calendar Q3 or Q4. Kirkland & Ellis LLP advised Omnitracs on the acquisition. PJT Partners is serving as exclusive financial advisor and Pillsbury Winthrop Shaw Pittman LLP is serving as legal counsel to SmartDrive.

Regional brands to benefit from greater depth and scale of data across leading publishers

DMS migrates to new-generation Permutive DMP

Dubai, United Arab Emirates-Wednesday 9 September 2020 [ AETOS Wire ]

In the fast-changing world of digital, technological innovations are perpetually paving the way forward for more effective advertising outcomes.

In keeping with its ongoing commitment to remaining at the forefront of digital, Digital Media Services (DMS) – The digital arm of Choueiri Group, recently announced that it has enhanced its data infrastructure, with the forward-looking deployment of the new generation Permutive DMP (Data Management Platform).  The development is the result of DMS’ ongoing drive to consistently future-proof its infrastructure. The Permutive platform now enables DMS to create a more granular ingestion and classification of data on the back of enhanced scale.

Built on edge processing, Permutive's DMP makes it possible for publishers to gather deeper insights about their valuable users (rich data on their interests and intent). This allows them to better cope with challenges related to users’ ever-evolving online habits. With growing challenges arising across the industry about first party data, stemming from cookies and regulations surrounding privacy and browsers, the pressure on all publishers has been steadily increasing.

Permutive’s Aarti Suri, Senior Customer Success Manager commented on the development and stated that “We are very excited to become a part of DMS’ arsenal. This development serves as a huge showcase for our edge-powered technology, as it is being deployed across a market-leading regional digital inventory, where our customization capabilities stand to shine”.

With the migration in place, DMS’ data capabilities now stand at par with premium publishers in Europe and other advanced markets. The deployment has effectively rendered an increase in scale of 120%.

Alex Lopes, Choueiri Group’s Audience and Data Director elaborated on the benefits of enhanced depth and scale by adding that “We are constantly relooking at our technology infrastructure to find better means and avenues which will ensure that our brand partners and publishers succeed at the end of the day. Equipped with greater depth and scale, more insights, and more data analytical horsepower than ever before, this latest migration to the Permutive DMP is a major step. With more properties captured by events fired through real-time and privacy-abiding technology such as edge and key-value pairs, we can better develop the 5 key pillars of data effecting real life scenarios (ingestion, classification, analysis, connection and activation). Empowered by this new approach which commenced sometime last year, Choueiri Group now stands at an all-new level across those pillars and is reflecting this with a host of innovative products and new ways of working being released to the market”.

About Permutive

Permutive is the data platform built for publishers.

Built on edge computing, the Permutive platform gives publishers the ability to connect their user data in one place using secure and scalable technology that does not rely on third-party cookies. The result is a significant increase in the quality and scale of data collected so that publishers can drive more revenue and decrease costs.

Working with clients across Europe and North America, publishers using Permutive include BuzzFeed, The Guardian, The Economist, Condé Nast International, Hubert Burda Media, and Immediate Media.
