Fields and the Sun: Agricultural PV, an Opportunity for the Energy and the Farming Industry

MUNICH & PFORZHEIM, Germany - Tuesday, 07. May 2024 AETOSWire Print

(BUSINESS WIRE)--The EU’s objectives are ambitious: The total solar energy deployment is to reach around 750 gigawatts by 2030. In this context, dual land use concepts, especially agricultural PV, are gaining importance. At Intersolar Europe, the world’s leading exhibition for the solar industry, visitors will have the opportunity to see a varied range of technologies, products and solutions for agricultural PV, and to gain deeper insights into best practices and the latest developments. Intersolar Europe will take place from June 19–21, 2024 as part of The smarter E Europe, the continent’s largest alliance of exhibitions for the energy industry, in Munich.

Extensive subsidies

European countries such as Germany and France subsidize agricultural PV with the aim of deploying more solar energy while reducing the competition for land use. Germany has introduced a separate auction segment with a top value for “special solar installation” (which includes agricultural PV installations) in the Solar Package 1, and France is deemed one of the pioneers for dedicated legislation. Other countries, such as Austria and the Netherlands, also promote their agricultural PV sector.

Benefits of agricultural PV

The advantages of dual land use are obvious: It reconciles solar energy with agriculture, and the protection against storm, hale, frost and draught adds an extra bonus for farmers. The electricity production costs are lower than from small roof-mounted installations, and farmers’ income is diversified. Shading and wind protection provided by solar panels reduces evaporation, and innovative solar panels have been developed that also collect rainwater for irrigation. This can benefit farming operations by boosting their resilience against crop failure.

Best practice projects

Pilot projects are emerging all over Europe. In the Dutch local authority of Meierijstad, for example, BayWa r.e. AG and their subsidiary GroenLeven are implementing a pioneering agricultural PV project, a 8.7 megawatt peak solar installation covering a vast raspberry plantation. On Sicily, figs and olives grow between the module rows of Europe’s largest agricultural PV plant. In Neißeaue, Germany, Next2Sun Technology works on a 20 megawatts solar farm with vertical modules.

Intersolar Europe 2024: special attention on agricultural PV

Intersolar Europe is putting a particular focus on agricultural PV. A special exhibit in the Outdoor Area will be dedicated to the topic. Partners of the special exhibit are BayWa AG, BayWa r.e., Conexio PSE, Vista Geo and ZIMMERMANN PV-Steel Group. What’s more, of the more than 1,370 Intersolar Europe exhibitors, some 60 exhibitors will be showcasing agricultural PV products and solutions. Experts will dive deeper into the topic and offer even wider information at a number of sessions at the Intersolar Forum and the Intersolar Europe Conference.

Intersolar Europe

As the world’s leading exhibition for the solar industry, Intersolar Europe demonstrates the enormous vitality of the solar market. For more than 30 years, it has been providing a networking opportunity for key players, focusing on the latest trends, developments and business models under the motto “Connecting Solar Business”. Intersolar Europe will take place from June 19–21, 2024 as part of The smarter E Europe at Messe München.

Galderma Receives Filing Acceptances for Nemolizumab in Prurigo Nodularis and Atopic Dermatitis in Four Additional Countries

  • Galderma has received filing acceptances for nemolizumab for the treatment of patients with prurigo nodularis and for adolescents and adults with moderate-to-severe atopic dermatitis in Australia, Singapore, Switzerland, and the United Kingdom, via the Access Consortium framework
  • The U.S. Food and Drug Administration and European Medicines Agency also accepted filing submissions for nemolizumab for the treatment of prurigo nodularis and atopic dermatitis in February 2024, with U.S. decisions anticipated this year
  • Further submissions to regulatory authorities in additional countries are ongoing

(BUSINESS WIRE) -- Galderma today announced that it has received filing acceptances for nemolizumab for the treatment of patients with prurigo nodularis and for adolescents and adults with moderate-to-severe atopic dermatitis in Australia, Singapore, Switzerland, and the United Kingdom, whose regulatory authorities are members of the Access Consortium. An approval decision is expected from the consortium next year. Nemolizumab is a therapy specifically inhibiting IL-31 signaling to provide safe and rapid relief from the most burdensome symptom of both skin conditions: itch.1-7

The Access Consortium is a collaborative initiative comprised of regulatory authorities which work together to address shared challenges, sharing knowledge and promoting greater collaboration to make regulatory systems more efficient.8

These acceptances are in addition to those received from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and European Medicines Agency for nemolizumab for the treatment of prurigo nodularis and atopic dermatitis in February 2024. Nemolizumab was also granted Breakthrough Therapy designation by the U.S. FDA in December 2019 for the treatment of pruritus associated with prurigo nodularis, a status reconfirmed in March 2023. The U.S. FDA subsequently granted nemolizumab Priority Review for the treatment of prurigo nodularis; its decisions on prurigo nodularis and atopic dermatitis are anticipated this year. Further submissions to regulatory authorities in additional countries are ongoing.

“These four new filing acceptances once again reinforce the potential blockbuster status of nemolizumab, which has shown great promise in both prurigo nodularis and atopic dermatitis. With even more filings anticipated this year, we are looking forward to finally bringing this long-awaited therapy to patients with these serious conditions as soon as possible, given the high burden of disease they still face.”

GLOBAL HEAD OF R&D

GALDERMA

The regulatory submissions of nemolizumab in prurigo nodularis are based on data from the phase III OLYMPIA clinical trial program, which evaluated the efficacy and safety of nemolizumab administered subcutaneously every four weeks in patients with prurigo nodularis.9,10 Both trials in the OLYMPIA program met all primary and key secondary endpoints. Results demonstrated nemolizumab’s ability to rapidly improve itch, clear skin nodules and reduce sleep disturbance, with sustained improvements for up to one year.11-13

The regulatory submissions of nemolizumab in atopic dermatitis are based on data from the phase III ARCADIA clinical trial program, which evaluated the efficacy and safety of nemolizumab administered subcutaneously every four weeks in adolescents and adults with moderate-to-severe atopic dermatitis.14,15 Both trials in the ARCADIA program met all primary and key secondary endpoints. Results showed that nemolizumab clinically improved skin lesions and rapidly improved itch and sleep disturbance.16

Media can find more information about atopic dermatitis and prurigo nodularis in this media toolkit.

About nemolizumab

Nemolizumab was initially developed by Chugai Pharmaceutical Co., Ltd., and subsequently licensed to Galderma in 2016 worldwide, except in Japan and Taiwan. In Japan, nemolizumab is approved for the treatment of pruritus associated with atopic dermatitis and is in development for prurigo nodularis. Nemolizumab is under regulatory review for the treatment of patients with prurigo nodularis and moderate-to-severe atopic dermatitis by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration and European Medicines Agency, as well as in Australia, Singapore, Switzerland, and the United Kingdom, via the Access Consortium framework. Galderma has not received regulatory approval for nemolizumab for any indication in any country to date.

The Empire State Building Partners with Outward Bound on First-Ever, Full Rappel Down the Building for Charity

NEW YORK - Tuesday, 07. May 2024 AETOSWire

Jared Leto Among Participants in the Big Rappel

(BUSINESS WIRE) -- The Empire State Building (ESB) hosted 20 brave supporters of Outward Bound – along with participant Jared Leto – in a historic rappel down the building’s south façade, in partnership with Outward Bound to raise transformational funds for the charity across the world. Participants total donations exceeded $3 million to Outward Bound, which will make a profound difference in the educational journeys of young people everywhere.

“The Empire State Building is the perfect host to amplify Outward Bound’s charitable mission through this historic rappel, and it reaffirms the Empire State Building’s long-held status as a symbol of hope, strength, and resilience,” said Tony Malkin, chairman and CEO of Empire State Realty Trust. “My wife and I chose to join the Big Rappel to benefit a great cause, and I got to see the amazing views from the three levels of our Observatory and the Empire State Building’s few remaining great office leasing opportunities on the way down!”

Leto kicked off the Big Rappel, that spanned nearly 900 feet from the building’s iconic spire down to the 30th floor. Leto famously climbed the “World’s Most Famous Building” in November 2023.

This morning, the Empire State Building hosted a lighting ceremony with Her Royal Highness Princess Beatrice, Trustee of Outward Bound in the UK, who flipped the famous switch. Tonight, at sunset, the Empire State Building will shine in blue, pink, green, and white to honor Outward Bound and their important work with young people and the Big Rappel at the Empire State Building. Text CONNECT to 274-16 to receive real-time information about the Empire State Building’s tower lights.

“On behalf of Outward Bound, thank you to the Empire State Building for hosting such an inspirational event. Bringing young people out of their comfort zones and supporting them to achieve something they never thought possible is what Outward Bound is all about. I am so happy to offer my support as a trustee and a great admirer of the Outward Bound Trust and all they stand for – these participants really are an inspiration,” said Her Royal Highness Princess Beatrice.

Outward Bound is a worldwide educational and charitable network whose mission is to change young people’s lives through challenge, learning, and adventure. Four Outward Bound organizations – which include Outward Bound International, The Outward Bound Trust, Outward Bound USA, and NYC Outward Bound Schools – united to create this once-in-a-lifetime event.

“Outward Bound has supported young people to push through and challenge themselves for the last 85 years, and the participants of the Big Rappel show that appetite for adventure in abundance,” said Martin Davidson, CEO, The Outward Bound Trust UK. “In the UK, The Trust inspires thousands of young people every year to achieve something they never thought possible by taking them from inner city environments into our national parks where they experience the extraordinary and learn what they are truly capable of."

The Empire State Building Observatory recently underwent a $165 million reimagination that included the addition of a dedicated visitor entrance, an immersive museum with nine galleries, brand-new, bespoke Observatory Host uniforms, and a new 102nd Floor Observatory with unmatched view. The reimagined Observatory Experience was voted the number one attraction in the U.S. by Tripadvisor travelers for two consecutive years.

Hi-res imagery and video can be found here. More information about the Empire State Building can be found online.

About the Empire State Building

The Empire State Building, the “World's Most Famous Building," owned by Empire State Realty Trust, Inc. (ESRT: NYSE), soars 1,454 feet above Midtown Manhattan from base to antenna. The $165 million reimagination of the Empire State Building Observatory Experience creates an all-new experience with a dedicated guest entrance, an interactive museum with nine galleries, and a redesigned 102nd Floor Observatory with floor-to-ceiling windows. The journey to the world-famous 86th Floor Observatory, the only 360-degree, open-air observatory with views of New York and beyond, orients visitors for their entire New York City experience and covers everything from the building's iconic history to its current place in pop culture. The Empire State Building Observatory Experience welcomes millions of visitors each year and was declared "America's Favorite Building" by the American Institute of Architects, the world's most popular travel destination by Uber, the #1 attraction in the US for the second year in a row in Tripadvisor’s 2023 Travelers’ Choice Awards: Best of the Best, and the #1 New York City attraction in Lonely Planet’s Ultimate Travel List.

Since 2011, the building has been fully powered by renewable wind electricity, and its many floors house a diverse array of office tenants such as LinkedIn and Shutterstock, as well as retail options like STATE Grill and Bar, Tacombi, and Starbucks. Competition & Disruption Set to Intensify as Middle East Aviation Enters Next Wave of Transformation

 According to latest OAG Report

(BUSINESS WIRE) -- The next wave of rapid transformation may see some aviation markets triple in size in the next decade according to data from OAG in its latest industry report ‘Middle East Aviation: Transformation, Growth and Future Challenges’ but there are still new challenges ahead.

The report has been released to coincide with this week’s Arabian Travel Market (ATM) and highlights future developments set to unfold in the world’s sixth-largest market, which signify potential disruption and intensified competition in the years to come.

Key Highlights Include:

  • New airlines, increased mobility and massive infrastructure developments will lead to a period of rapid growth and transformation.

  • A lowering of airfares as increased capacity and new entrants create a consumers’ market.

  • Passenger loyalties will be tested as airlines compete for everyone’s business.

  • New Saudi Arabia based airlines will bring improved levels of connectivity to the country and region.

  • A difficult supply market and a fierce competitive response will challenge ambitious passenger targets.

Middle East aviation has experienced astounding growth with the fastest-growing country markets including Qatar (12.5% AAGR), United Arab Emirates (9.3%) and Saudi Arabia (6.5%). With airline capacity of 718bn ASKs in 2024 compared to 124bn in 2000, growth is set to continue as this exciting market now enters its next phase, bringing both rapid growth and market complexity.

Visionary investment in Saudi Arabia has set in motion the creation of new service industry sectors, which should see the country bring airline passenger volumes in line with other regional markets. Whilst the target is ambitious, achieving such a number is becoming increasingly challenging as the aviation sector faces a series of supply challenges.

Indonesia aims to reaffirm its position as a top global travel destination at the Arabian Travel Market 2024, with a special focus on engaging the Middle East region. Led by Sandiaga Salahuddin Uno, Minister of Tourism and Creative Economy/Head of the Tourism and Creative Economy Agency, the Indonesian delegation aims to strengthen bilateral relations while presenting the country’s rich and diverse tourism offerings.

Central to this year’s showcase is Taman Safari Indonesia, Southeast Asia’s leading wildlife conservation entity and the largest of its kind in Indonesia. Known for its robust conservation efforts and immersive visitor experiences, Taman Safari is poised to provide an unforgettable adventure that emphasizes close encounters with Indonesia’s unique wildlife, from Sumatran tigers to playful orangutans.

At the heart of Taman Safari Indonesia’s mission is its dedication to conservation and education. The park ensures the animals' well-being by replicating their natural habitats and engaging visitors through innovative programs aimed at fostering a commitment to wildlife and biodiversity conservation.

Alexander Zulkarnain, Senior Vice President of Marketing for Taman Safari Indonesia Group, shared his enthusiasm: “We are excited to introduce visitors to an unmatched wildlife experience. At Taman Safari Indonesia, guests do not just observe; they engage, learn, and become part of conservation efforts, making each visit not just enjoyable but meaningful.”

This year’s market focus also includes enhancing ties with the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries, leveraging cultural and religious commonalities to boost tourism flows. With destinations like Bali and the expansive Taman Safari Indonesia in Bogor, the group also highlights other locations such as the vast Prigen area at the base of Mount Arjuna in East Java, which is famed for its diverse wildlife and stunning landscapes.

“We offer a comprehensive cultural experience, including halal food options to cater to our Middle Eastern guests, ensuring a comfortable and memorable stay,” added Zulkarnain.

Indonesia's growing popularity in the Middle East—with a 140% increase in tourist visits last year—signals a promising future. With the theme of "Green Tourism," this year’s participation aims to further drive this momentum, targeting a significant increase in tourist arrivals from the region.

2023 MOI Road Statistics Released: Fatalities near ‘All Time Low’, Injuries and Accidents increase

  • 352 Fatalities, +3% vs. 2022 (343), -8% vs. 2021 (381)
  • 5,568 Injured Persons, +10% vs. 2022 (5,045), +27% vs. 2021 (4,377)
  • 4,391 Major Accidents, +11% vs. 2022 (3,945), +26% vs. 2021 (3,488)
  • 70% of the Fatalities (64% of the Injured) linked to 5 violations: Distracted Driving, Sudden Deviation, Tailgating, Negligence and Inattention, Lack of Lane Discipline.
  • Young road users in the age bracket 19-29 years are the most vulnerable, accounting for 38% of Fatalities and 36% of the Injured
  • 15% (677) of major accidents by New Driving License Holders
  • 98% are getting injured and killed in good weather and clear road conditions
  • Evening is the most dangerous time to be on the roads (43% of victims)
  • Abu Dhabi tops the list in terms of fatalities (38%), Dubai in terms of injured persons (47%)
  • 69% Fatalities in light vehicles; 12% motorcycle riders; 4% micro-mobility users
  • The top 10 dangerous streets could be defined

The UAE continues its focused journey to reducing the number of fatalities on our roads. Fatality numbers hover near the ‘All Time Low’ which we witnessed last year (343), although with a slight increase of +3% to 352, and with -8% vs. 2021.

The long-term trend is remarkable, as the last time the UAE reported more than 1,000 traffic fatalities (1,072) was in the year 2008, resulting in a -67% drop of road fatalities over the last 15 years.

The Ministry of Interior (MOI) just uploaded ‘open data’ road safety statistics for 2023.

Thomas Edelmann, Founder and Managing Director of RoadSafetyUAE comments on the findings: “We are grateful to MOI for releasing the detailed 2023 road safety statistics early in the year. The strongest indicator in road safety is the number of fatalities, and as this number is hovering near the ‘All Time Low’, which is wonderful news. However, the rise in accidents and injuries is alarming, substantiating the need for a continued focus on road safety.

The main 5 violations accounting for 70% of fatalities (64% of injured) must be tackled. This concentration of only 5 violations is even more pronounced than in the previous years. All involved public and private stakeholders are urged to consider how they can contribute to improving the situation, for example by running engaging awareness campaigns and initiatives with their audiences like staff and customers, as their touch-points can really help us making a difference. Ideally, schools and employers should play a vital role in addressing the road users under their influence. Possibly, the legal framework and enforcement could be further developed.

98% of casualties happen in good weather and in clear road conditions, which leaves no excuses for road users and we must see more mindful and caring behavior on the roads!

A special focus on the vulnerable segment of young road users seems necessary, with a focus on the segment of 19–29-year-olds where we see the biggest toll. 15% of major accidents are caused by new driving license holders. Hence, the stakeholders close to this vulnerable segment need to do their bit in raising awareness for safe conduct and we call on driving schools, universities, employers, and parents to be cognizant of their responsibilities. Safe habits should be created as early as possible and already at kindergarten and school level, the driving school education could be revisited, staged driving licenses and monitoring technologies for novice drivers should be considered.

The share of motorcycles in major accidents (12%) seems over-proportionally high and we see rising casualty numbers for micro-mobility riders (bikes, e-bikes, scooters) and hence, more should to be done to protect these vulnerable riders.”

Following is a selection of the most important data points, derived from the database of Ministry of Interior.

The strong concentration on only 5 violations must be part of focused and aligned initiatives by all concerned stakeholders.

A strong focus is also needed on the young segment of the 19-29 years old, and also the 30-39 years old segment. Together these 2 main segments account for more than 60% of casualties!

Drivers must embrace their responsibility for their passengers and other vulnerable road users, especially pedestrians.

The vulnerable segment of motorcycle riders and micro-mobility riders (Bicycle, Electric Bike, Scooter) is over represented in the victims’ statistics and their safe riding behavior must be in focus of initiatives, as well as the mindful interaction of stronger traffic participants with them.

Road and weather conditions cannot serve as an excuse. The (mis)behavior of road users is rather to blame for accidents.

Road users must be extra careful when traveling on the top 10 dangerous roads.

…as well as during the evenings, where we witness most of the casualties.

Abu Dhabi tops the list of fatalities, while Dubai tops the one of injuries.

Visa Announces Generative AI-Powered Fraud Solution to Combat Account Attacks

Visa’s new Visa Account Attack Intelligence (VAAI) Score helps identify the likelihood of enumeration attacks in card-not-present transactions

(BUSINESS WIRE)--Threat actors are leveraging sophisticated technologies, like automated scripts and botnets, to amplify their card testing attacks, allowing them to exploit vulnerabilities at an unprecedented scale and speed. These attacks, known as enumeration attacks, inflict operational expenses and $1.1B annually in fraud losses,1 accounting for a significant portion of global fraud. To combat this threat, today, Visa (NYSE:V), a leader in digital payments, announced updates to its Visa Account Attack Intelligence (VAAI) offering with the addition of the VAAI Score, a new tool that uses generative AI components to identify and score enumeration attacks. The VAAI Score, which will be available to U.S. issuers first, will help reduce fraud and operational losses by assigning each transaction with a risk score in real time to detect and prevent enumeration attacks in card-not-present (CNP) transactions.

“Enumeration can have lasting impacts on our clients and there’s an immediate need for tools that can better detect and prevent these attacks in real-time,” said Paul Fabara, Chief Risk and Client Services Officer at Visa. “With the VAAI Score, our clients now have access to real-time risk scoring that can help detect the likelihood of an enumeration attack so issuers can make more informed decisions on when to block a transaction.

Thirty three percent of enumerated accounts experienced fraud within five days of a fraudster obtaining access to their payment information2. By using generative AI, components to learn normal and abnormal transaction patterns, Visa’s VAAI Score identifies the likelihood of complex enumeration attacks in real-time to help reduce fraud without compromising the integrity of Visa’s performance and accuracy. The tool has been able to reduce the false positive rate by 85% compared to other risk models, as the VAAI Score focuses on specific signals for enumeration allowing for a stronger performance3. VAAI Score can help issuers with:

  • Reduced fraud and operational losses: Helps identify complex enumeration attacks in real time which can help reduce follow-on fraud from validated accounts and operational losses due to enumeration such as customer center calls and card reissuance and help safeguard clients.
  • Improved cardholder experience: Helps identify when legitimate cardholder transactions are not impacted, while giving issuers a tool to proactively decline transactions at risk for enumeration attacks.
  • Real-time transaction scoring: Provides a real-time risk score in 20 milliseconds4 which can help clients in identifying enumeration and using it in their authorization decisioning when used with a rules engine.

“With access to advanced technology, fraudsters are monetizing stolen credentials faster than ever before,” said Michael Jabbara, SVP Global Head of Fraud Services, at Visa. “Enumerated transactions impact the entire ecosystem, and with the VAAI Score, we’re giving our clients a sophisticated tool that can help prevent cardholder accounts from being compromised and stop fraudulent transactions before they happen.”

The VAAI Score model has been trained on more than 15 billion VisaNet transactions and has six times the number of features compared to previous VAAI models to help better assess suspicious enumeration transactions. Visa’s approach uses noisy data to train the highly accurate real time AI model. By evaluating each CNP transaction against enumeration patterns, the new risk scoring model derives a two-digit risk score that helps predict the likelihood of enumeration to help better determine when to approve, and when to decline, transaction.

At Visa, security and reliability are top priorities year-round. Over the past five years, the company has invested more than $10 billion in technology, including to reduce fraud and increase network security. More than a thousand dedicated specialists protect Visa’s network from malware, zero-day attacks and insider threats 24x7x365. In FY23 alone, Visa helped to proactively block $40 billion in fraud5, preventing many from ever knowing they were at risk of a potential fraudulent transaction. We encourage consumers to stay alert and think about where they are shopping and who they are sharing their information with stay safe.

“Thank you to the faculty and staff, and our families, who have spent years shaping and building us into the emerging engineers we have become,” Al-Sada said. “We have all matured and grown together, whether through laughing hysterically in the middle of the night studying or stressing over our grades. You have all been magnificent, not just as students, classmates or friends. But as people who have impacted me deeply. The lessons you have taught me, I will treasure dearly. It was you all who taught me not to hold on to the past for too long, and to embrace the future rather than worry about it.”

Dr. César Octavio Malavé, dean of Texas A&M at Qatar, congratulated the graduates on their resilience and resourcefulness in completing their degree, and urged them to uphold the Aggie Core Values of Respect, Excellence, Loyalty, Leadership, Integrity and Selfless Service in everything they do.

Malavé said, “A degree in engineering is one of the most challenging degrees a student can earn, and the Aggie engineers we recognize tonight have completed an intense course of study to fulfill the requirements for their engineering degree. And not just any engineering degree — an engineering degree from Texas A&M University, a globally recognized leader in engineering education and research. Your hard work has paid off, and tonight is the start of a lifetime of learning, leading and lending expertise to the challenges of the future. It’s time for each of you to fulfill your potential as engineering leaders for Qatar’s knowledge economy and for the global energy transformation.”

After the degrees were awarded, Texas A&M at Qatar alumnus Tabarak Al-Lami, a Class of 2018 petroleum engineering graduate and reservoir engineer at SLB, inducted the graduates into The Association of Former Students, Texas A&M’s alumni organization that comprises the nearly 575,000 graduates of the university worldwide and is known as the Aggie Network.
